A concert-lecture with Thomas Wolf | “The Nightingale's Sonata: The Musical Odyssey of Lea Luboshutz”

Author Thomas Wolf will recount the extraordinary life of his grandmother, an internationally acclaimed violinist, and her remarkable family of musicians. From the Black Sea to the concert halls of Europe and North America, the story includes a who’s who of music, literature and the politics of Revolution. Wolf’s narration will be enlivened by numerous historical photographs, many reclaimed from Russian sources that were inaccessible for three quarters of a century.

This multi-generational, uniquely Jewish saga will be narrated with a live performance of a musical work Lea Luboshutz championed — César Franck’s dramatic violin sonata, performed by Barry Shiffman, violin and Philip Chiu, piano. Introduced by Jaap N. Hamburger, composer.
